Marion Joseph "M.J." Genovese, Jr.

Marion Joseph “M.J.” Genovese, Jr., 69, passed away at his home on Monday, May 15, 2017, after a battle with COPD.

M.J. was born October 26, 1947 to Marion Sr. and Janis “Jan” Genovese in Des Moines, Iowa. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bird watching. M.J.’s passion was horticulture and botany. He worked in landscaping and many of his projects were for golf courses, which in turn helped to spark his passion for golfing. M.J. loved tending his tomato plants and treasured time spent reading his Bible.

He is survived by his daughter, Janiece Genovese (Brandon Brady); granddaughter, Olivia Lewis; son, Christopher Genovese; parents, Marion Sr. and Janis Genovese; and a host of extended family and many loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Genovese, Sr. and his niece, Amy Genovese.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2017, at the funeral home followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Please join the family for a reception to be held at Baratta's Restaurant, 2320 South Union, after the burial.
