Sammy Rich

Sammy Rich, 88, passed away May 13, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.

Sammy was born June 21, 1928 in Des Moines to Mike and Mary (Calvis) Rich. He had worked at Paramount and Columbia Pictures and most recently he had been a receiving manager for Dahls. Sammy was a lifelong Yankees fan. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and was a faithful patron of All in the Family Lounge. Sammy was extremely family oriented, had a trademark smile, laugh and was very mischievous. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Sammy is survived by his sister, Dolores “Dede” Sinclair; children, Barry (Nancy) Cook, Cheri (Mike) Parton and Debbie (Joe) Kline (who was also his primary caregiver); niece, Dawn (Ross Hoerchler) Sinclair; nephew, Mike (Mary Durand) Sinclair; grandchildren, Matthew (Robin) Cook, Michelle “Missy” (Matthew) Reaman, Carri Parton, Chad (Kelly) Parton, Samantha “Sami” Kline, Nicole “Niki” Kline, Brian (Devon) Kline and Jeffrey Kline; great-nephews, Matthew (Samantha) Sinclair and Brett Sinclair; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; sister, Frances Rich; and his brother-in-law, Robert L. Sinclair.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 19th at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road. A private family burial will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Lincoln High Booster Club.
