Harriett K. Summa, 94, passed away May 11, 2017. Services will be held Tuesday, May 16 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3600 75th Street in Urbandale, IA with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in George, Iowa.
Harriett was born on June 16, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Marie (Hudgen) and John Kirby. She graduated from Morningside College with her Bachelor’s degree in teaching and taught at the George Public School. She married Ivan Summa and Harriett became a fulltime homemaker raising the couple’s five boys.
She is survived by her sons, Mark (Stephanie) of Long Beach, CA, Mell (Barbara) of Waimanalo, HI, Monty (Debbie) of Pierre, SD, Scott (Becky) of Okoboji, IA, Dean (Julie) of Polk City, IA; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Harriett was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.

Our sympathy to you boys for the loss of your mother. I will never forget the big breakfast she would serve the duck hunting crew when we were kids. She always made me feel like one of the family.

To Mell and his brother's, I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. I will keep you and the rest of the family in my prayers. It has been an amazing blessing to be part of this reunion! We are so thankful to have met Harriett. She was so kind and welcoming. We feel like we have known her forever. She will be missed!!! Sending love to you all!
