Joseph W. Schumann

Joseph Wyllie Schumann, age 78, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017, at his home in Des Moines.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by funeral service at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

Joseph was born January 18, 1939, in Forest City, Iowa, to Andrew and Jean (Wyllie) Schumann. He graduated from East High School and had nearly completed his degree at Drake University. Joseph worked as a truck driver for Triple F Feed for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He established lifelong friendships and still enjoyed participating in Canary Lake Elementary School reunions. Joseph enjoyed trains and was an animal lover, especially cats. Memorials may be directed to JoAnne Milby’s Animal Sanctuary, an organization close to Joseph’s heart. He is survived by his brother, Carl (Brenda) Schumann, sister, Roberta Mock, nieces and nephews, Carl (Karen) Schumann Jr., Jennifer Schumann, Kevin (Corla) Ogden, Elizabeth (Tim) Carlson, Eric (Sharon) Ogden, Lawrence Mock and Andrea Mock, as well as many other family and friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Jean Schumann and his sisters, Alice Ogden and Betty Schumann.
