Gary Jones, age 72, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 12, 2017 at home. He was born on June 15, 1944 in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey.

While Gary lived in New Jersey he served as Police Officer for a few years. Gary & Cherry later lived in Florida, Texas, and Chicago where he worked in several public refrigeration warehouses within those states. In 2007, Gary moved to Iowa to become managing director for Iowa Cold Storage. Gary proudly served as board member of WFLO, and chairman and instructor at the school of IARW. He was a member of Elks Lodge in Altoona and Toad Valley Golf Course where he was an avid golfer. Above all, he loved and cherished his wife.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 24 years, Cherry; daughters, Jennifer Jones and Kelly (Jason) Wallace; step-children, Bill (Kim) Roscoe, Sally (Bill) Bailey, and Scott Roscoe; grandchildren, Gary Jones, Madison Wallace, Caleb (Lauren) Bailey, Chelsea (Jamar) King, Caitlyn Bailey, Brandon Roscoe, Samantha Roscoe, and Morgan Roscoe & her mother, Renee Roscoe; great-grandchildren, Rowan and Jerimiah; sister, Maryann (Bob) Maass; aunt, Dorothy Adornetto; and a host of family & beloved friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Gertrude Jones; step-son, Simon Roscoe.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family to be donated at a later date to a charity of their choice in Gary’s name.
