Nicholas Christian Flater

Winterset

Nicholas Christian Flater was 30 years old when he passed away on March 18, 2017. Nick came into this world, alongside his twin sister, on December 18, 1986 to his proud parents Jerry and Kris Flater. He was born in Des Moines, but he was a country boy at heart.

Growing up he attended South East Polk High School, graduating in 2005. After High School Nick served his country as a Marine, with a tour in Iraq. Nick was an apprentice at The Waldinger Corporation, and a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 33. He had just recently moved to Winterset, where he found his dream home with a small acreage. Nick was an animal lover, he spent many years riding horses with his grandmother, but his constant companion was his dog, Bella.

Those surviving Nick are his parents; sister, Kate Flater; grandmother, Norma Kofmehl; many loving aunts and uncles; and a host of cousins, friends, and other family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Chris and Josephine Flater, and Charles Kofmehl.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Ss. John and Paul Catholic Church, 1401 1st Ave. South in Altoona, from 5 -7 p.m., with a Vigil service to begin at 7 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the church, with military honors to follow at the church.
