Robert Coffey

Robert “Bob” E. Coffey, 96, passed away March 12, 2017 at Wesley Acres.

Bob was born March 6, 1921 in Clyde, Missouri to Edward and Laura Coffey. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. Bob moved to the Des Moines area in 1955. He farmed for 30 years along with working as a fireman for Chicago Great Western Railroad, retiring in 1980 after 28 years of service. Bob was a member of Norwalk United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #0281 in New Virginia, Iowa.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Jeanette; son, Robert (Sue) Coffey; brother, Edward Coffey; sisters, Lavon Wolf, Effie Bidleman, Laurene Monson and Dorene Wright; two grandchildren; a step grandchild; two great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parent and his brothers, Charles and Wilbur.

The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Robert will be laid to rest with military honors at 2 p.m. Monday at Norwalk Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Bob.
