Gerald "Bud" Berry

Gerald Berry, 84, passed away on February 16, 2017, at Valley View Village in Des Moines. He was born February 1, 1933, to James and Mabel Berry.

Bud served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was united in marriage to Shirley Vernon on March 16, 1956. He retired from Armstrong Tire after 32 years. Bud was a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Eastgate Masonic Lodge, and lifelong member of the American Legion.

In his retirement, Bud found great joy in tinkering. One of his granddaughter’s said it best, “If grandpa couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed.”

Bud is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; children, Rick (Jill) Berry and Pam (John) Carver; grandchildren, Rachel Berry, Adam (Tabitha) Carver, and Emily Carver; great-grandson, Asher Berry; siblings, Delores Aswegan, Phyllis (Slim) Allen, Harold (Donna) Berry, and Charlotte Cook; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private graveside services will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Celebration of Life for friends and family will take place from 3:30 – 6:00 pm on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Noah’s Ark, 2400 Ingersoll Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Bud’s memory.
