Jean Rae Chance, 77, passed away on February 7, 2017 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines after a long battle with COPD. She was born in Des Moines, on May 17, 1939 to Dean and Della Pierce.
Jean graduated from North High School and worked in the accounting department at Days Inn for many years. She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, working in her yard and bowling with her bowling league. She was a true homebody.
Jean is survived by her children, Jeff (Amy) Chance, Mark Chance and Angie (Doug) Lee; grandchildren, James (Kourtney) Chance, Jason Chance, Kyle, Adam, Dakota and Austin Lee; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Chloe, Mia and Cayden; sister, Bev Mardis; a host of other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Bob Mardis; and husband, Gary Allensworth.
Visitation will be held from 11 – 12 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines with a graveside service to begin at 12 p.m. at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

So sorry to see this. I went through school with Jean and she was a great friend to me. I have especially good memories of our high school days at North High. My condolences to her family for the loss of their loved one.

Jean will be missed. She was so generous letting us take over her house when the floods chased us out of ours. So sorry for the loss of one so dear. Our thoughts are with you.
