M. Kay Thomas

Kay Thomas, 77, passed away on January 17, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born in Woolstock, Iowa, on July 11, 1939, to Grover and Gertrude Yoder.

Kay was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family more than life itself. She often worked her fingers to the bone to provide for her family. Kay loved the color red and enjoyed Monte Carlos, horses, fishing and cooking.

Kay is survived by her children, Dusty (Carolyn) Smith of Des Moines, Michael (Peggylynn) Smith of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kelly (Mark) Clark of Des Moines; grandchildren, Morgan (Brian) Taylor of Chesapeake, VA, Taylor (Amanda) Lai of Indianola, Jordan Clark and Tegan Clark of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Owen and Aubrey Taylor of Chesapeake, VA, and Willow Lai of Indianola; siblings, Leila LaRue of Boone, Francis Lindstrom of Eagle Grove, IA, and Theresa (Mike) Becker of Dakota City, IA. Kay is also survived by more loving nieces, nephews, family and friends than you can shake a stick at.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Kent Thomas; grandchildren, Jamie Lai and Benjamin-Michael Smith; and her 8 siblings, Fayetta Moser, Margaret “Mug” Stangland, Venetta Kepler, Bernard “Swede” Yoder, Donald Yoder, Martin “Mocky” Yoder, Cedric “Sec” Yoder, and Grover “Shorty” Yoder Jr.
