Service Details
Helen Irene Moore, 81, passed away January 9, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Home in Indianola, IA. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Monday, January 16 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Helen will be laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery in Des Moines.
Helen was born October 8, 1935 in Payton, IA to Dollie (Gutshall) and Claude Dunbar. She graduated from Redfield High School and moved to Des Moines. She worked for Central Life and Farmland Insurance retiring from both. Helen married Clark “Bud” Moore in 1957 and they raised their family in Des Moines. They were avid campers and enjoyed the outdoors. Helen loved to crochet and knit and gave all of her projects to her loved ones.
She is survived by her children, Sheryl (Lary) Norlin, Michael (Lori) Moore and Kelly (Marsha Houseman) Moore; grandchildren, Robert (Amanda), Laura (Jeremy), Cheri, Amy, Ella, and Quintin; great-grandchildren, DiAnte, Kyron, Katelynn, and Lane; and her siblings, Pauline Doyen and Ralph (Patsy) Dunbar. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clark “Bud” Moore, Jr.; her siblings, Bernice Wright, Ruby Mae Dunbar, Lloyd and Lester Dunbar; and infant son, Harold.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Helen during our days of watching sons, Mike and our son Jack at Lincoln High football games. The time I will always remember most about Helen was when Lincoln made it to state and played Sioux City Helan. I can't ever remember being so cold. Helen, however, sat on the bleachers for the entire game wrapped tightly in a mummy sleeping bag while the rest of the parents would brave the cold a little at a time then warm up for a while inside of cars before returning to cheer our team on to what I wish I could say "victory". We later had the opportunity to work at Central Life at the same time. After retirement would see both she and Bud sitting with their friends inside of Target enjoying coffee. The one thing that we had in common that I was not aware of, is a love of ice cream. You and she can be assured that I will have a dish (or two) with a big smile on my face remembering a good friend. Wish the weather had been better so that we could be there but at 81 and 87 we are not sure footed enough to take a chance with the ice.

Grandma was a wonderful woman and she will be missed, but we know she is in a much better place now and is smiling down on all of us.

Sheryl and family, I will always remember meeting your mom in the Farmland hallway.......she was starting her work day and I was ending mine. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.
