Kent Allan Sittig
October 17, 2016
A true servant of the Lord went home to his maker on October 17, 2016. Kent Allan Sittig was born on April 7, 1956 in Lake City, IA to Ella (Schofield) and Ernest Sittig. His kind heart and desire to serve and care for others was evident in his career choices. He worked for various moving companies and then established Kent’s Karpentry in 1985 and died on the job while serving a family. Over the years Kent served on various mission trips to Venezuela, Columbia, Russia and Poland and was often knee deep in mud cleaning out churches and schools as needed. Whatever the call, he answered it.
On February 14, 1976 he married his sweetheart, Barb Holloway. The couple raised two beautiful daughters and later traveled together on mission trips. Kent loved helping others – it was his true mission. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In his rare free time, Kent did enjoy a bit of fishing.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 40 years, Barb Sittig; his daughters, Jennifer (Russ) Porter of West Des Moines and Kendra (Wade) Janssen of Newton; 6 grandchildren; siblings, Marlene Coughlan of Kasson, MN, Darwin Sittig of New Hampton, IA, Maurine Zuetlau of Rockwell City, IA, Kathleen Anderson of Fort Dodge, IA, and Kevin Sittig of Waterloo, IA; sister-in-law, Iona Sittig of Rockwell, City, IA. Kent was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Marilyn Seeden and Ervin Sittig; and brothers-in-law, Robert Zuetlaw and Bill Anderson.
Services will be held at Berean Assembly of God, 5299 E. University Ave. in Pleasant Hill, IA with visitation on Friday, October 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. and the funeral service on Saturday, October 22 at 10:00 a.m.

Condolences to the family.
Kent was a fine high school classmate. He had a quiet dignity and a subtle humor. These qualities clearly were sustained through a well-lived if too-short life.
Rest In Peace.

My heart is broken to learn of Kents passing. Im praying that the Lord will hold all of you in His arms and fill your hearts with the peace that passes understanding as you live in the midst of your loss. I always appreciated Kents dry humor and that chuckle he had. His talent with his hands was only surpassed by his love for Barb and the girls and all those happy grandkids. One of my favorite memories is seeing him with Tyler when T was just a little guy. It was a joy to see how Tyler looked up (literally) to his grandpa and how much joy and pride covered Kents face. I am also grateful for his heart for the Lord and his willingness to serve others. I was a recipient of his kind heart--it helped change my life. Kent will be sorely missed. Please know that I am praying for you and your family during this timeand will continue in days to come. Barb, a day doesnt go by that I dont think of you and Kent with great love. Wish I could be thereplease consider yourself hugged. My deepest sympathy to the family. I am so very sorry.

Barb, Kendra and your families, our hearts go out to you all. The pain has to be so deep right now. It's hard to understand why some things happen when they do, yet we know that our timing is not God's timing. We're praying that you feel Jesus' strong arms around you to comfort you now and in the days ahead. For now, this is not goodbye, but until later. There's an old song that says, "Someday we'll meet together, the time is drawing nigh, when we have our fam'ly reunion in the sky; we'll gather 'round the throne of God to never say goodbye." We love you!

My condolences to the Sittig family. Kent and I were classmates and after reading his history I can see how he developed into a Christian, worthy person and family man of strong values. May your coming days be filled with the celebration and memories of a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, brother and helping neighbor and friend.

I was a classmate of Kent's and even though we were in a lot of classes together, I didn't know him very well. He was a very quiet person and didn't have much to say but was always nice to me. I'm so sorry for your loss.

To Barb and the family- several years ago, Kent built our front porch and he also did some other projects on our house. He was so hard-working, talented, and honest. We knew we could trust him to do things right and always at a fair cost. Barb, we have enjoyed seeing you both at the Farmer's Market. Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to you.

I spent a couple of summers as a college student working for Kent. Along with my own father, I learned more about working hard and being honest from him than I have from anyone else. Kent was an honorable man who kept his word and didn't cut corners. Years later, when I bought my own home, my wife and I had him over many times to do projects for us. There was never any question in our minds. We wanted Kent. We are heartbroken to hear he is gone, but know he isn't really gone in an eternal sense. Monday morning, before he left us, he was in my kitchen looking over some recent work, talking with my wife and joking around with my 4 year old. So sweet. We miss him (and his dry sense of humor) already. He ran the race well. God's comfort and blessings to his family.
