Russell Norris Ruby, 92, left us with family at his side September 17th, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Russell was born June 29th, 1925 in Rake, Iowa the son of Merle and Blanche (Stokkabae) Ruby. He was an Estherville High School alumnus and proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII as a radar specialist. Russell and Phyllis (Hansen) were married in 1951 and shared their lives together in Estherville, Spirit Lake, Mason City, and presently Ankeny, Iowa. Russell retired from Hy-Vee meat department in 1990. He was a past member of the Estherville Lutheran Church where he served on various boards and an active member of the United Methodist church. He was a Golden Kiwanis member and volunteered for 7 years at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and long distance walker. He loved the lake and visiting with family and friends. Russell was devoted to his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis, two daughters, Marsha (Bruce) Meisinger and Julie (Wayne) Nyberg, three sisters, Betty (Dean) Millman, Doris Long, and Martha Rude, five grandchildren, Brent Wipf, Nathan Meisinger, Mackenzie Meisinger, Courtney Nyberg, and Spencer Nyberg, numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda (Rowen) Wipf, and his parents.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 14th, 2016 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Mill Pond Care Center, 1201 Southeast Mill Pond Court, Ankeny, Iowa. An interment will occur at Eastside Cemetery in Estherville, Iowa at a later date.

Flowers may be directed to Mill Pond Care Center in Ankeny. Remembrance gifts may be directed to the family in loving memory of Russell.
