David Nelson

David W. Nelson, 64, passed away on August 24, 2016, at Taylor House after a 3 week battle with cancer. Services will be held 12:00 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Monday one hour prior to service time.

He was born July 31, 1952, to Arthur (Wally) Nelson and Marie Nelson in Des Moines, Iowa.

He graduated from East High School, Grand View College, and the University of Iowa. Dave had worked for the State of Iowa, was a co-owner of DJ Wens Kid’s Corner Daycare Center in Pleasant Hill for 19 years and for the past 15 years worked with his best friend, Jim Simpkins. He was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing trips with his friends and watching Hawkeye sport events.


David is survived by his father; sister, Deborah (George) Garvis; brother, Douglas (Judy) Nelson and nephews, Nolan (Allison) and Jordan Nelson. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and numerous aunts and uncles.
