Elisha O'Bannon
June 30, 2016
Elisha Marguerite O’Bannon (Weesy) passed away on June 30, 2016 at the age of 44.
Elisha was born in Killeen, TX on October 23, 1971.
She graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1990 and went on to earn a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Iowa in May 2003. She worked at the VA Hospital as a Social Worker aiding Combat Veterans after returning home from service.
On May 3, 2008 Elisha married Ryan Vander Velden in Ankeny Iowa. Elisha enjoyed making decorations and crafts for her home, crocheting, making jewelry, leading children’s ministry and camps, playing with her twin boys Luke and Liam, and any of the many cousins whenever the opportunity arose. She also enjoyed helping other Moms of Multiples, volunteering for March of Dimes, and in her spare time going on dates with the love of her life - Ryan.
Elisha’s memory will live on through her husband of 8 years, Ryan; her twin boys, Luke and Liam; her mother, Linnea O’Bannon; sister, Mary (Dan) Rittel; brothers, John (Shana Drake) O’Bannon and Sean (Sarah) O’Bannon; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Elisha is being called home to our Father by her dad, John O’Bannon; her sister-in-law, Leslie O’Bannon; her grandparents, John and Rosemary O’Bannon and Raymond and Fran Hoffmeyer.
Services will be held at Grimes United Methodist Church, 801 W. 1st Street in Grimes, IA with visitation on Tuesday July 5, 2016 from 5 to 8 pm and the service on Wednesday July 6 at 11:00 am. We hope you can stay to chat, tell stories and maybe cry a little with us in celebration of an amazing woman.
If you choose, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to the Luke and Liam College Trust Fund or the Grimes UMC Children's Ministry. Condolences for the family may be offered online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Thank you to all those that stopped here to say something about Elisha and to offer their prayers and love to her family. I am her mom. I miss her desperately. It is so difficult to put words to my feelings of loss, so I can't share those with you yet. I am eternally thankful for her presence in my life, for her love and devotion, her caring and her sense of humor. She was such a gift to all who knew her.

Ryan, your mother prayed for a caring, tender hearted woman to become your wife. She never got to meet Elisha but her prayers were answered.
Please know that many are holding you and your boys & in their hearts & praying for comfort & peace to be your solace. She was a sweet person who left us too soon. Love, Hovie

I offer my deepest sympathies for your family. I had the privilege of serving as Elisha's instructor while she matriculated in the UI MSW program (in Des Moines). She had a wonderfully compassionate, engaging and fun-loving spirit; I loved her spunkiness and willingness to stand up for her principles. The world was a better, brighter place with her in it. I am deeply saddened by Elisha's passing. I join with all who knew and loved her in mourning her passing and in celebrating the gifts she gave to us all.

Elisha was compassionate, concerned about the Veterans, and would give 100%. I was a co-worker and saw many of the Veterans she referred to therapy. She touched a lot of hearts and the Veterans always spoke fondly of her. My prayers go out to her family.

Devastation has hit the VA community. Elisha was compassionate with the veteran community and it has been a joy working with her the past 9 years coordinating from Omaha VA with Des Moines VA. She will be missed. Bless her family and praying for strength for them.
