E. Virginia Simet passed away on June 28, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born February 9, 1935 in Nodaway, Iowa to Ray and Opal Garey. "Ginner" as she was affectionately known lived many years in Spencer, Iowa where she enjoyed gardening, cooking and attending high school sports. She was a loving mother to more than just her son, but to all his friends as well. In 1985 she and her husband Thomas moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she operated an in home daycare until her retirement in 2002. After which she was known to attend many athletic events and concerts of her former daycare "kids". She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas, her son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Julia of Tuxedo Park, New York and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Ave in Des Moines. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 1, 2016. She will be laid to rest at Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

I am so saddened to hear of Virginia's passing. We were neighbor's in Spencer for a long time. I've thought of her and Tom often with fondness. So sorry for your loss Tom and Jeff.

Condolences to Uncle Tom and Jeff. Will certainly miss Aunt Virginia. I know she missed her family these past years. They are all together now. Fond memories of staying with you in Spencer in summers.

I am so sorry for your great loss! "Ginners" gave her love and support to children she cared for and to their families. She cared for many of my nieces and nephews from infancy and up.The children really loved and respected her! She was a special person, especially with children. Aunt Virginia was so much like her mother, my Grandmother Opal Garey. I am sure "Ginner" was taught at an early age, to make people feel comfortable "in their own skin". She welcomed so many people into her life and into her heart with love and kindness just the same as Grandma Garey did.
