Richard Lee Black, 90, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Urbandale Health Care Center. Richard was born on July 17, 1925 in Brighton, Iowa the son of Floyd and Martha Black.

He graduated from high school in Denison, IA. in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy that same year. Richard married Colleen R. Daniels in Des Moines and together they raised eight children over the next 68 years. His working career included ADT (retired 1974) and John Deere (retired 1992).

Throughout his life he enjoyed working in his yard, camping and spending time with his family. He will always have a special place in the hearts of his family, which includes his loving wife, Colleen; six sons, Steve (Dixie), Bruce (Margaret), Denis (Peggy), John (Diana), Kirby (Christy), David (Jeannette) two daughters, Kathy (Richard) Biederman and Theresa Black (Merv); eleven grandchildren, Tisha, Mandy, Dana, Tori, Austin, Brandon, Kayla, Rebecca, Chase, Ryan and Miranda; four great-grandchildren, Sam, Maddy, Liv and Ben; and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW 9th Street. He will be laid to rest at Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Friday.
