Leona "Lee" Mascaro

Leona Mascaro passed away at Trinity Center at Luther Park on February 2, 2016. She was born in Lorimor, Iowa, on November 21, 1933, to Lawrence and Priscilla Patterson.
Leona lived most of her life in Des Moines and was a devoted wife and mother. She worked at Western Southern Life Insurance Company as office manager, and in her later years she worked in the cafeteria at Woodside Middle School. Leona was a member of the Croatian Club and Eagles Lodge.
Leona is survived by her daughters, Dianna (Chris) Gleason and Deborah Mascaro; grandchildren, Jae and Nicole (Aaron) Gleason, Aerica (Paul) and Michael Baker, and Katie Lashley; 8 great-grandchildren; as well as other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; parents, 2 sisters, Ethel Olds and Maxing Powell; and 1 brother, Gene Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Leona.

Leona was an Earth Angel sent to us to share special memories. She was always there with a smile on her face and always had words of encouragement. She will be missed by so many. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dianna, I'm so sorry! I remember how supportive your Mom was of all of us girls when we were in school & what a great job she & Judy's mom did on our uniforms. My prayers and rememberences are with you.
