Kenneth Wilbur Couchman

Kenneth Wilbur Couchman, 92, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny. Kenneth was born July 9, 1923 near Sewal, Iowa in Wayne County, the fifth child born to Ray O. and Nellie E. (Roof) Couchman.
Kenneth graduated from Sewal High School in 1940 as valedictorian of his class. He was united in marriage to Eileen McKee on January 25, 1941. Kenneth was a World War II Army veteran. Following his discharge he and Eileen moved to Des Moines where they enjoyed 47 years together before her passing September 24, l988.
He was a 50 year member of both East Gate Masonic Lodge and East Gate Order of the Eastern Star Chapter where he was Worthy Patron in 1963. He also was a 50 year member of Union Park United Methodist Church. At the time of death he was a member of Ankeny Christian Church. He was very proud of having served as a volunteer at the Des Moines VA for 15 years.
Left to cherish Kenneth’s memory are daughter, Sherry (Ken) Johnson, Ankeny; granddaughter, Lisa (Rob) Duffy, Ankeny; grandson, Craig (Katie) Johnson, Bondurant; four great granddaughters, Kara Duffy, Lydia, Grace and Bridget Johnson; foster son, Harry Errett, Bettendorf; sister, Norma Jean Couchman, Pleasant Hill; sister-in-law, Virginia Couchman, Corydon; and several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by parents; wife; infant son, Jimmie; sister, Mildred Brown; and three brothers, Harold, Howard and Doyle.
Funeral services will be held at Ankeny Christian Church, 2506 SW 3rd Street, Ankeny on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service where the family will greet friends. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery on Merle Hay Road, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be directed to Ankeny Christian Church.

I'm so sorry to hear of Kenneth's passing. We lost a wonderful uncle, whom I'll always think of as Uncle Kenny. I wish I could be there with you for the services. I'll always remember his laugh. I'll pray for you in the coming days. Although he had a long life, it's still hard to lose a father.

Sorry to read about Kenny's passing always enjoyed speaking with him at the Roof reunions. He will be missed.

Just sending you our well wishing for the days to come. Uncle Kenny had a good long life and I remember alot of good times with him at family gatherings, especially those great picnics at the park in Des Moines.
