Roman Valentino Nelson
Des Moines
Roman Valentino Nelson was born February 11, 2015 to Vicente and Audrianna Nelson. He was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at one month of age. He was showered with love and cared for by his parents and family every day he was on this earth. He loved his bath time and watching cartoons. Even though his condition paralyzed his little body, he had a huge personality that showed in his eyes and in his smile. He could tell when his family was there with him and he knew he was loved. He was called home to heaven on August 29, 2015 after blessing his family with 6 months and 18 days of life with him.
Roman will always be lovingly remembered by his mommy and daddy, Audrianna and Vicente; his big brother, Julian; his grandparents, Ellen Nelson and Josh Stubbs; many aunts and uncles; and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, also at the funeral home, with burial at Ridgedale Cemetery in Johnston.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family or directly to Hamilton’s to help alleviate burial expenses.

I don't know your family. What drew me to this obituary was this sweet face of Roman's...smiling is spite of it all. It would be wonderful if we could adopt his attitude. One thing I do know is that Roman is asleep now. He is awaiting the resurrection that is assured. Then, there will be no more pain, no more sorrow, no more death according to Revelation 21:3-4. I hope these words comfort your somehow and our God lovingly enfolds you in His love and care.

I am a volunteer at Child Serve and I had the pleasure of rocking your sweet Roman. May you find comfort in knowing that your little boy was loved so very much while in the care of this wonderful facility. Thinking of you as you mourn your loss.

I don't even know you or anyone in your family, but my heart goes out to you at this time of loss. It sounds like your son had a very spirited personality and communicated so with you in spite of his illness. His little soul will be with you forever. May the Lord's peace be with you and yours.

To Chase Peek. I am so sorry for your loss. I remember how wore out you were while working at Heska and staying all night with Roman at the hospital. You stood by him all the way and I'm sure the angels will look over him now. God bless and good luck

To my Audri, Vinni, and Julian:
Little Roman filled a space in our hearts in his too short little life. His spirit is with us sitting right on our shoulders now when we grieve for him and always.. We can never forget those sparkling eyes of his when we know he understands us. Always remember, Roman picked you! I love you to the moon and back!! Grammy Loretta
