I have many fond memories of him while at the PD, he was a great man with a big heart, he enjoyed people and was very proud of his family. I want to express my condolences to the family of Jim Riccio. I remember Jim for his warm, (and sometimes ornery) smile. His eyes actually twinkled when he was enjoying himself! During my tenure with the Des Moines Police Department he always treated me with the utmost respect and courtesy, which is indignant of his wonderful, caring heart. He developed several significant programs that were directed at those most in need, like SALT, Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, which pioneered the way to other programs for dependent children and
adults. Jim Riccio left a lasting imprint on those he came into contact with, he
was a class act.

I am very sad to hear james passed away. I was a troubled teen back in the 80's and had to visit him often. I will never forget the words he said and the time he took to help me. I was very fond of detective riccio and he was one of the few people that understood me. I will always remember the kind and caring man he was.

Jimmy was one in a million! He was kind, generous, and caring to those he cared about here at the Des Moines Police Department, and his sense of humor was unique and legendary. I am saddened to lose him in my life. I always had a good time talking to him, even though it was only by phone over the last few years. Many sympathies to you, Rilla, and Maggie and her family. You were his world.
