Steven W. Ancell, 64, passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center.
Steve was born January 18, 1951 in Des Moines to Gerald and Mary (Castanzo) Ancell. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School. Steve served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was the “Mild Mannered Grocery Clerk” at Dahls for over 25 years. Steve enjoyed flower gardening and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with his childhood friend of almost 60 years, Michael Thompson and helping his friend of over 50 years, Dean Barr at his bait shop.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Diana; children, Charity (Jim) Mattes, Chantel Ancell, Gerald Ancell and Michael (Heidi Sweet) Ancell; sisters, Laura Stephenson and Pamela Price; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Duncan; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and other loving relatives.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Diana: I was so shocked to hear of your loss .I will not be able to attend but my thaughts a prayers are with you in your loss as you were with me at my time of loss.
I know he will be greatly missed by those who knew him well.

Our neighbor, Steve, will be greatly missed. He always came over and helped us with yard projects without even asking him. I think he thought I would get hurt or break the equipment if he didn't show me how to do it right (and he was probably right!). We will never have another like him. He also looked after mom when she lived here by herself which we were always grateful for. Your in good hands. God bless you in heaven and to Diane and family for all the cherished memories they will have and hold dear.

Mike and family, we are so sorry for your loss and know that he will be missed. He is in God's hands now and will be well taken care of. The few times that Steve and I talked, he would talk your ear off. Quite the man. The memories of things that he did, will always be with you. That, keeps him alive in your hearts.
