Dorothy Mae Fix
April 20, 2015
Dorothy Mae (Donaghy) Fix, 89, was born December 17, 1925 to John (Jack) and Florence Donaghy in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed peacefully April 20, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
First and foremost, Dorothy was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Dorothy graduated from Elkhart Community Schools and Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. Using her RN skills she welcomed thousands of babies into the world while working in Mercy's Labor and Delivery department. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends. Her ability to show love and generosity from the kitchen to the dozens of Christmas stockings and baby blankets she knitted was boundless. Attending the activities of her family and friends was at the top of Dorothy's priority list. She looked forward to providing meals in the field during planting and harvest. A lifelong fan of Iowa State Fair activities, she camped with her family for decades. A highlight for her was her ride on the Budweiser 8-horse hitch. She enjoyed many cruises and vacations, from Alaska to Hawaii and the Caribbean. She was also an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Ron (Jennifer) Fix and Randy (Sherry) Fix; grandchildren, Kelsey (Stacy) Berenguel, Kimberly (Eric) Christian, Kristin Formaro (fiancé, Nate Glenn), and Bryan (Ashley) Fix; great-grandchildren, Juliana, Harrison, Aylah, and Dawsyn; brother-in-law, Jack Dougherty; additional loved ones, Kim and Dave Hols; as well as other loving relatives and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Darlene Dougherty; nephew, Richard Dougherty; and infant niece, Kathleen Dougherty.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015, at Bondurant Federated Church, 103 2nd Street SW in Bondurant, with burial to follow at Lincoln Township Cemetery west of Alleman, IA. Visitation will be held Thursday evening at the church from 5 to 7 p.m.
In loving memory of Dorothy, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to establish various memorials at the Iowa State Fair.

I was lucky to have the opportunity to know Dorothy both professionally, as a nurse at Mercy, and as a patient in Labor and Delivery. I'll never forget the excellent coaching Dorothy provided me during childbirth. She came in to assist at just the right moment and was a true Godsend. I can hear her voice and words like it was yesterday, even though it was 25 years ago. She was a wonderful woman who touched so many lives. Heaven is lucky to get to welcome her.

Dorothy & I worked together at Mercy for numerous years and I loved her. She shared pictures and stories of family always so it was like I knew everyone she talked about. She was so proud of you all and such a part of your lives I know you will miss her terribly..I can still see her going up and down the halls in her white dress and she was in on hundreds of deliveries. I was actually just thinking of her because another long ago member of our group passed away and I was wondering how she was doing. Old memories. I remember the quilts she got in the Ozarks and she set me up to get one when my son got married over 30 years ago......God will greet her with Love and bless you with your memories of such a beautiful lady!!!
