Fred H. Stewart, Jr.

Fred H. Stewart, Jr, age 95, son of Fred and Lillian Stewart, passed away on Sunday, April 19th. Services will be held at Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 Northwest 6th Ave., at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the church from 10-11:00 a.m.

Fred lived in Des Moines all of his life. He graduated from North High and Drake University. Fred served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Barnes. He entered the Navy as an officer and left as 1st Lieutenant. He retired from Meredith Corporation in 1984 after 30 years of service where he was Promotion Art Director. He was a longtime member of Highland Park Christian Church. He enjoyed many sports, bridge, travel, games and family activities.

Survivors are wife Harriet, daughters, Susan Schmitz (Keith) of Elmhurst, IL, Diane Stewart (Don Thompson) of Long Beach, CA and Betty Oestenstad (Larry) of Minnetonka, MN, a sister-in-law, Juanita Wadsworth of Lansdale, PA, grandchildren Alison and Amy Schmitz and Jason and Trevor Oestenstad, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald/Joann Stewart and Kenneth/Regina Stewart and in-laws Lincoln Wadsworth, Alice/Clyde Seeley and Jane/Paul Smith.

He was kind and caring and often brought a smile with his dry sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Highland Park Christian Church.
