Leonard R. Yazel

Leonard R. Yazel, 75, passed away February 23, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born in Nevada, IA, to Fern and Geraldine Yazel on June 6, 1939, and was currently living at Sunny View Care Center in Ankney, IA.

Leonard proudly served in the Navy Reserves. He worked at Northwest Hospital in Respiratory Therapy until working in the maintenance department for numerous years. Leonard also owned and operated his own sod company for 5 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, bike riding, playing his harmonica, and model trains.

Leonard is survived by his siblings, Mildred Pierce, Robert Sample, and Randy (Kimberly) Sample; as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-brother, Morris “Corky” Sample, Jr.

A Celebration of Leonard's life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Cory Grove Community Church near Elkhart, Iowa, with burial to follow at Cory Grove Cemetery.
