Garth Searcy

Garth Royal Searcy, 74, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Garth was born January 15, 1940 in Pocahontas, Iowa to Chris and Dorothy (Cox) Searcy. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1958 and worked as an automotive mechanic. Garth was a member of the South Gate Masonic Lodge, Waveland Park Masonic Lodge, Za Ga Zig Shrine, and the South Gate Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.
Garth is survived by his wife, Gail Dyer; children, Randy (Susan) Searcy, Greg Searcy, Robin (Ray) Searcy and Gail (Jeff) Nielsen; step-children, Chanel (Scott) Smith, Lynn (Anthony) Graham and Michael Dyer; grandchildren, Brandon, Jeremy, Stan, Adam, Gloria, Hillary, Anthony, Hunter, Allison, Brya, Kaymin, Ashlynn and Mark; ten great-grandchildren; and siblings, Gerri Taylor, Gary (Judy) Searcy, Gwenn Stewart and Gail (Chris) Groves.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Karla; and his step-son, Mark.
There will be a gathering to celebrate Garth’s life held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the South Gate Masonic Lodge, 1111 Randolph Street, Des Moines. Family will begin greeting friends at 1:00 p.m. with a service including OES, Masonic and Christian rites to start at 2:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Garth.

I was so sorry to hear of your loss, but glad I got to see Garth and kind of catch up. Years back I had worked with him at Sears Automotive. Just by chance we had crossed paths and had a most enjoyable 'drive to the office'. He was such a great guy. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers

I lost a great friend and cousin. I have enjoyed Garth's friendship over the years and will miss those times when we laughed and lamented on life's struggles. I will miss him greatly.

I am so blessed that I got to know and establish a friendship with Garth and Gail during their visits to see Dr.Heddinger - He was a great man and I will miss him - Gail and family you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I will not be able to attend the celebration as I have to work -
