Service Details

Celebration of Life for Velma Earle will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at Valley View Village Chapel (Main dining room). For additional information, call Valley View at 515-265-2571.

Velma, 95, formerly of Carlisle, Iowa passed away October 25, 2014 at Valley View Village in Des Moines. She was born June 9, 1919 to Amy Ramsey Edwards and Owen Leroy Edwards in Daniel, Wyoming. They later moved to Osceola, Iowa.

Velma graduated high school and had 2 years of Junior College in Osceola. She was married to William Leslie Woodall in August 1941. They were blessed with two children, Janet and Robert. Their son, Robert died in 1963 of bronchial asthma. Her husband, Leslie died in 1966.

Velma worked for Principal Insurance Company for 25 years and retired in 1984. She was very active with her children’s school activities, Carlisle Christian Church and Indianola Heights Evangelical Free Church. She married Robert Earle and moved to Valley View Village where Bob suffered a fatal heart attack in 1994.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, and traveling. Velma loved watching college basketball and her many friends at Valley View Village where she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet and her husband Alan Petre of Altoona, Iowa; grandsons, Todd Baber and family of Logan, Iowa, Doane Baber and family of Norwood Young America, Minnesota; step daughter, Deborah Little of Ashland, Ohio; granddaughter, Jennifer Tooney and family of Salem, New Hampshire; grandson, Sean Little and family of Ashland, Ohio; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sisters; 2 brothers; former husbands and son.

Velma’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the kindness shown to Velma by Unity Point Hospice care and the staff at Valley View Village Health Center.
