Harold Stone

Harold Eugene (Gene) Stone, 91, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in St. Petersburg, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and burial will follow at Highland Memory Garden Cemetery.
Gene was born November 24, 1922 to Leone and Jerome Stone in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a United States Marine Corps combat veteran serving during WWII and Korea. He retired from Meredith Corporation after 46 years. He was a member of The American Legion Post 0729 and a 50 plus year member of Waveland Park Masonic Lodge.
Gene enjoyed working with wood, square dancing, golf, attending church, completing cross word puzzles, attending Music in the {Park and the Saturday markets in Des Moines and Saint Petersburg.
Gene is survived by two children Robert (Alexis) Stone of New Port Richey, FL. and Patricia Klaskow of Saint Petersburg, FL; four step-children Susan (Doug) Parr of Burleson, TX, Carol (Gordon) Singsaas of Hendricks, MN, John Scharnweber of Fort Worth, TX, and Don (Julie) Scharnweber of Little Elm, TX; five grandchildren; and two great grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia, his second wife, Joyce (Scharnweber), his daughter Janet Stone, brothers Jack Stone and James Stone (infant), sister Marjorie Stone (infant), and half-sister Gail Six.
