Claudelle Tiedemann
October 16, 2014
Claudelle Tiedemann, 77, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014. She was born in Mason City, IA, and adopted as an infant by Claud and Stella Miller of Cresco, IA. Claudelle and her two brothers, Jim and Steve, attended St. Joseph Elementary School in Cresco.
After graduating from high school at Our Lady of Good Counsel Academy in Mankato, MN, and after college, she enjoyed a teaching career in Minnesota and Iowa Schools; as well as family life with her husband, Bill Tiedemann, and two daughters, Laura and Kristin.
From 1975 to 1990 she was a stay-at-home mom with occasional part-time jobs managing a Dairy Queen at the corner of 6th and College Ave. and as a G.E.D. examiner.
After Bill was injured while on his job as a stationary engineer at Mercy Hospital, Claudelle was hired in 1990 by the Des Moines Public Schools to facilitate a State Early Childhood Grant Program called Parents as Teachers.
In 1994, Claudelle found her birth family and met her half-sister, Dorothy Witt, of Mason City, IA in a joyous reunion.
She retired from teaching in 2000 to care for her husband who passed away in 2001. In 2009, her 31 yr. old daughter, Laura, died leaving two sons, William age 4 yrs. and Benjamin age 2 yrs. They now live with their father, Jason Hainline in Missouri. Claudelle volunteered once a week with 3rd grade and kindergarten classes at Martensdale St. Marys. Her daughter, Kristin married Andres Campos; they have a 10 yr. old daughter, Marie, and live in Minooka, IL.
Claudelle enjoyed reading, music, cooking and baking, water aerobics, crocheting, playing Cribbage with her brother, Steve, who lives just five blocks away, and spending time with family and friends including her new friends at Fort Des Moines Senior Housing.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa.

We were so sorry to hear of the death of Claudelle!
Our Christmas card of last year was returned as "addressee unknown" and so this Christmas we decided to search for her ourselves. We were saddened to hear of her death in October. We knew both Claudelle and Bill in Grad school and have kept somewhat in touch over the years. We finally connected again in person with a grand visit in DesMoines at Christmas 2010. She was truly a valiant woman. We will always remember her sense of humor and warm hospitality! You had two wonderful parents! We will hold all of you in prayer this Christmas that peace and gratitude will overflow in your hearts!

Claudelle was part of our family. She was a good friend to my father-in-law, David Wieczner.
Her letters, delicious baked goods (David had a sweet tooth), her visits meant the world to David. Whenever she came for their walks/visits, David sprang to life especially in his final days.
Her love for teaching, love for animals and her laugh will be missed.
Rest in peace, sweet Claudelle.

Claudelle was such a wonderful person. She truly was the expmple of how one should live one's life. Everyone who knew her--school parents, children and co-workers- was blessed . I was one of those blessed as I was the Kindergarten teacher of both girls. I also was a co-worker. I will keep Claudelle in my prayers.
May God watch over you.

Grandma Claudelle, as she was known by the students at Martensdale St. Marys, was a wonderful, giving person. Claudelle volunteered in my classroom last year while her grandson, William, was in my 3rd grade class. My students looked forward to working with her each week. Claudelle's teaching abilities made her a valuable asset to all. She will truly be missed.

I came to Claudelle as she volunteered in my kindergarten classroom to read to the kids and help students with skill work. Her grandson Ben was in my classroom for 2 years. Claudelle had a huge heart, was so incredibly caring and loving. I am very sad to hear of her passing. She was truly an angel on earth.

I have known Claudelle for a long time. I am also from Cresco. We have shared many stories over the years . We have laughed and cried together.
My deepest sympathy for those left behind..she is singing and dancing and enjoying her eternal reward. Her presence will be everywhere.

I knew Claudelle in the 1950's. Her brother, Steven, was one of my best buddies and we got some satisfaction by teasing her and making pests of ourselves. None the less, I liked her very much and I respected her also. I'm sad to learn of her passing.

Dear Family,
My mom is Maddy Wise. Claudelle was a dear, dear first cousin. We have many fond memories of Claudelle and her loving, fun spirit!! From the days of visiting her in Mankato to the days of her visits from DesMoines... my mom always looked forward to the phone call, lovely letters and visits. Steve, I know that Claudelle's passing is a huge void for you... what a wonderful sibling relationship to watch over the years. I will not be able to make this service... I know it will be special. Please know I'm holding you in my thoughts & prayers at this time. Ann
