Roland Short

Roland D. Short, 87, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, September 17, 2014.

Roland was born October 4, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa to John and Vivian (Fredregill) Short. He was a proud East High alumni. Roland was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. He continued working after retirement, tirelessly transporting residents of the Golden Age Care Center.

Roland is survived by his children, Rodger (Lori), Frank (Janet), and Elanna (James) Fultz; nine grandchildren, Shelly, Stacy, Renee, Shannan, RodgerLee, Amanda, Lindsey, RubyAnn, and J.D.; thirteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lee Short; infant daughter, Rae Elaine; brother, John; and his parents.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, also at the funeral home, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Pleasant Hill.
