Karen A. Johnston (Howell)

Karen A. Johnston, 51, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014. She was born February 26, 1963, to James Howell and Elizabeth Friedel in Des Moines, Iowa.

She is survived by her loving mother and step-father, Elizabeth and Paul Friedel; siblings, Jimmy Howell, Mike Howell, Steve Howell, Rita (Mike) Friedel, Shelly (Byron) Van Zandt, Becky (Paul) Anderson, and Bill (Leslie) Howell; step-brothers and sisters, Kathy Gamble, John Friedel, and Paula McLeran; numerous nieces, nephews and friends who loved her very much; and her beloved “kids” Sadie and Black Jack.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Johnston; father, James Howell; and step-brother, David Friedel.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
