Gregory Battreall
July 19, 2014
Gregory Ronald Battreall, 48, was born August 21, 1965 in Henderson, Nebraska and passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Mercy Hospice Johnston.
Gregory went through the McCool Junction School District in Nebraska and graduated from Central Community College in Columbus, Nebraska. He then moved to Grinnell in October of 1986 and worked as computer programmer. Gregory married the love of his life, Leanna (Lockey) Battreall, in October of 1992 and to this union two children were born. They moved to Des Moines in May of 1993 and Greg then started working for Principal as a computer programmer. He was there for about 20 years, eventually becoming a computer architect.
Gregory was a member of Faith Lutheran Church for many years. He enjoyed working on cars, and loved that he was able to restore two cars, one being all on his own. One of his favorite pastimes was woodworking, and he enjoyed time spent outdoors fishing as well. Gregory shared a passion about guns with his son, Ronnie, and cherished their time together.
Gregory was always willing to help others, and always with a smile, whether it be at work or at home. He found great pleasure in being able to mentor many people that he worked with. Gregory was a man of strong character, and was well-respected by all those who were blessed to have known him. He had such a positive attitude about life, and will always be remembered for his fabulous story-telling and wonderful sense of humor. Above all else, Gregory loved spending time with his family…he would do absolutely anything for them and made sure he took care of them, right up until the end.
Gregory is survived by his loving wife, Leanna Battreall; children, Ronnie and Abby Battreall; parents, Ronald and Elaine Battreall; siblings, Deb (Dan) McElravy and Kevin (Vicki) Battreall and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adolf and Selma Obermier; H.R. Battreall and Lucille (Battreall) and Gerald Downey.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Ave. in Clive with burial to follow at Waukee Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice Johnston, Mayo Clinic Cancer Research or Faith Lutheran Church in loving memory of Greg.

Leanna,
I was in the hospital when Greg passed away and only recently returned to work. Lori Anderson Lee sent me an email today with the news of Greg's passing and I am very saddened by it. He really was a great person to know. I worked with him on a few projects in Grinnell and jammed with him at a band rehearsal he came to. My sincere condolences to all of Greg's family

I was so sad to hear about Greg. He was a great guy, I worked with him at GMRC and he was always so happy. I remember his sense of humor and how everyone gathered around when he had a story to share. The world lost a very good guy but Heaven gained an angel. May God hold all of you in his hand in the coming days and months to come.
