Dixie Brown

Dixie Kathleen Brown, 66, died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at her home in Des Moines.

She was born July 22, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Vena (Emerson) Hunt. She was formerly employed at the Des Moines International Airport and as a nurse at nursing homes, helping and caring for the elderly. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to the casino.

Dixie is survived by her children, Gary (Nancy) Spooner, Tina (Thomas) Jones, Bob (Mindy) Dougherty, and Jeff (Kim) Dougherty; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ellen Hunt, Helene (Phil) Ware, Flora (Ira) Duer, Beverly (Jim) Hanawalt, Gail (Joan) Hunt, and Robert Hunt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lester Spooner; sister, Arlene Strayer; and brothers, Sam Hunt and Fred Hunt.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Ridgedale Cemetery following the funeral.
