Dale Eugene Stang was born on December 2, 1929, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Esther (Hills) and Herman Stange. His family lived on a farm near Bernard, Iowa and moved to a farm south of Osage when he was 9 years old. He graduated from Osage High School in 1948.

He lived in St. Petersburg, Florida and worked in a Cadillac garage before joining the Army. At Fort Benning, he was trained as a paratrooper. He returned to Osage in 1953 and worked at Oliver in Charles City. He then went to work for Roy Walters learning how to do auto body work. In the mid 50s, he and Dick Dean opened Dick and Dale’s Body Shop. In addition to body work, they sold boats, motors, canoes, snowmobiles, and trailers. He met Sarah (Hudtloff) who was teaching in Osage, and they married on June 7, 1958. To this union, four children were born. He retired in 1995.

Dale was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Conservation Club, American Legion and the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Dale enjoyed gardening, flying, golfing, boating, snowmobiling, and motorcycling.
Dale loved spending time with his family at the cabin, boating on the Cedar River, and teaching kids how to ski. Both Sarah and Dale earned their pilot’s licenses and in the early 70s, Dale purchased a BD5 kit airplane and completed the body before selling it. Dale took his family to the EAA Fly in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for several years. Dale and Sarah took several long trips on their GoldWing Motorcycle crisscrossing the USA, Canada, and Mexico, sometimes with their dog, Pepper, in tow.
