December 31, 2013
Kimi Kay was born April 24, 1974 in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert and Linda. Kim graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Upon graduation, Kim began a lifelong career at the University of Iowa Hospital as an RN, always giving comfort and care to those who needed her. Working many long, hard hours but always doing what she loved – helping others. Kim was very accomplished and adept in her field. She took an active role on several committees including the Shared Governance Committee/Staff Nurse Consultant Panel. Kim had been nominated numerous times for the Daisy Award. She received an accreditation for Medical Surgical Nursing RN-BC in 2012. Kim volunteered her time at Thanksgiving on the children's oncology floor serving self-prepared meals to families to assure her love of family and unity. She gave of herself in every aspect of her life and was loved and highly praised by her patients as well as her coworkers. Kim gained her angel wings Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the age of 39 and is now at peace, fully resting with the Lord.

I am so sorry for your loss. Kim was an awesome nurse and a wonderful person. She loved her family so much. She talked about her boys all of the time. She also spoke of moving closer to home to be by her family. She shared warm thoughts of the 4th of July parties and how crazy/fun they would get. I am going to miss Kim like crazy.

Kim was one of the brightest parts of any overnight shift I ever worked at UIHC. She was knowledgable, kind, compassionate, and so very funny. My condolences go out to her family, and her sons, whom she loved so much and had so many great stories about...I will be forever grateful to have known her.

I loved Kim very much. She was Mary Anne's closest friend and I felt like a member of her family, too. Kim overcame any obstacles that came into her life in a sterling way. I believe she is very close with Jesus in heaven and very happy. Kim loved her family and friends very much and I know her death is a great loss to us all. Thank You, Jesus, for Kim's gift of life..
