Christopher Byers
June 26, 2013
Christopher Micher Byers was born on September 13, 1992, in Takoma Park, Maryland, to Jody Byers and Prisco Sanchez. He passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Christopher graduated from Lincoln High School. He was becoming a good lawn care and handyman and had high hopes of starting a small business with a buddy. When Christopher wanted to do something, he wouldn’t stop until it was perfect. It didn’t matter if it was riding a bike, swimming, yo-yos, flips, mowing a lawn, or painting a wall, it had to be perfect. His love of skateboarding never stopped, even after a pin in his hip at age 11, a broken foot, stitches, and many fights with the pavement in which the pavement always won. Christopher was always laughing and making others laugh.
Friends and family cherish the 20 years, 9 months, and 13 days he was with them, and wonder why he was taken away so soon. Knowing he is with his mom will bring some peace to their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jody Ann Byers. Survivors include his father, Prisco, and stepmother, Meagan; sisters, Kayla Byers, Angel Sanchez, and Trinity Scott; grandparents, Larry and Patty Byers, Kay and Larry Wischhoefer, and Prisco, Sr., and Miriam Sanchez; aunt, Kim Byers; uncles, Tracy Wishhoefer and Jamie (Tracey) Byers; cousins, Jamie “JJ” and Sara; great-grandparents; great-aunts; great-uncles; two sets of very special friends, Codie and Corey Summers and Lynzie and Tyler Miller; and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, followed by burial at Oralabor Cemetery in Ankeny. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
The family of Christopher wishes to thank everyone for their support during this time. Your prayers and accounts of Chris have been very uplifting. The family also wants to extend a very special thanks to the Polk County Victims Assistance Program.

I am Corey Summers aunt and have met Chris several times over the past several years. He was always friendly, polite and respectful-which is rare in teenagers it seems. May God take him in his arms and shower love and affection on him for his time with us was brief.

I went to school with Chris. He was such an amazing guy. He always knew how to make everyone laugh. I loved watching him skateboard. I hate that they took you from us! But I am happy that you get to join your mom. I will never forget you. Rest in paradise dude.

I attended school with Chris from 3rd grade until high school. Although we were never close, there was a level of respect between us that I always cherished. He always had such a great smile and a big heart. I will always keep memories of him close to my heart. My prayers and condolences to his friends and family. God Bless You All and Keep You Close in the days to come.

Chris was at my home often as a teen. You could usually find him playing a game of skate (skateboarding) no matter what time of year. He was always working on improving his skills. He had a positive attitude and was polite to me. I am so sorry for your loss.

Chris was mowing my grass for me this year. He arrived one Saturday afternoon on his skateboard and seeing my lawn in need of some attention he rang the doorbell and ask if he could mow it for me. We settled on a $20 fee and he proceeded to do a perfect job. I invited him back for the next week and he faithfully walked (the skateboard was broken) 3/4 of a mile to do the job for the next 6 weeks.
Chris was a good kid and was on his way to being a good man. I will always keep him in my heart and my prayers. My condolences to his family.
