Clifford "Thunder" Thornton

Clifford “Thunder” Thornton, 69, passed away March 25, 2012, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.
Thunder was born November 9, 1942, in Des Moines. He retired from Firestone after 33 years of service. Thunder served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a member of Paralyzed Veterans of America, American Legion Post 729 and United Steelworkers Local 310. Thunder enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
Thunder is survived by his wife, Cathy; sons, Douglas (Zoe) Thornton, Mark (Elizabeth) Thornton and Gregory Scott Thornton; daughter, Sherri (Mike) Thornton; grandchildren, Michael, William, Wyatt, Robert, Skylar, David and Mackenzie; and his sisters, Lavay (David) and Helen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Deloris Thornton, and his brother, Marty Thornton.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Cathy & family, I am so sorry for your loss & apologize for not being able to be with you during your time of need. We all have lost a great guy and he will always have a special place in my heart. WE lost 2 great people MR. Marty & Mr. Cliff. May God Bless his soul
in Heaven.We had lots respect for Mr. Cliff.

I worked with Cliff and his father at Firestone, They both kept me laughing all the time. Very good gentlemen. Please know your family is in my thoughts and prayers. So sorry for your loss.

Cliffy was the greatest ever... he had a BIG heart. I can always remember mom saying, Cliff done this or that for her. I will remember the summers when I would go there to get fresh veggies we would sit and BS about old times. I have to say us Thorntons are good people. I will sure miss U Cliffy.

Had alot of great times in Des Moines at Cliff and Cathys house every year looked forward to that every fall. Cliff will be missed.
