Muriel Hoover

Muriel Hoover, 81, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Spurgeon Manor, in Dallas Center, IA.

Muriel was born July 2, 1930, in Corwith, IA, to Vernon and Lucia Studer. She lived on a farm in Corwith to age 14. The family moved to Kanawha, IA, where her parents owned a small grocery store. She graduated from Kanawha High School, attended Cornell College for one year, and also attended American Institute of Business. Muriel married Donald L. Hoover, June 22, 1951, and has lived in Ankeny and Des Moines for the last year 40 years, where she worked for the City of Des Moines for 22 years. Muriel was a member of Eastern Star for 50 years and a member of AA for over 40 years.

Muriel is survived by two sons, Greg (Janet) Hoover of Severna Park, MD, and Brian (Sara) Hoover of Ankeny, IA; granddaughters, Angie Hoover of Winfield, IA, Brittany Hoover of Ames, IA, Tuesday, Hailey, and Lucy Hoover of Severna Park, MD; great-grandson, Carson Beard of Winfield, IA; sister, Carolee O’Connor of Corydon, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, and sister Carla Rust.

Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home, followed by burial at the Brethren Cemetery in Dallas Center, at 2:30 p.m.
