I am so sorry for your loss. I had the honor to work with Dave when we shared office space at the Capitol. I never remember a time that Dave did not have a smile on his face. The world is a little darker without him.

Way too early in life to be gone. My most sincere condolences to Dave's family, friends and co-workers. After I retired, I had hoped that the next time that I saw Dave would be at my next yard party. There will always be a place for you. Rest in Peace and keep the Hawks and Cubs on track.

My sincere condolences on this loss so early. Working with Dave, his sense of humor was a gift & the love of baseball was something we shared. He was a good guy. My thoughts are with you, and warmest regards.

Hi Kathy and Gabe, Many good memories of Dave at the Lovett weddings. I remember Kyle's wedding. My girls arrived and we went to a bar with a great selection of beers. I thought to myself, "Dave would really like this place." When I looked around, I noticed that Dave was at the bar. He was way ahead of us. You will always have many good memories to cherish.

Kathy, I was so saddened to run across Dave's obituary in the paper this morning. I have so many fond memories of the two of you during the years you were in Iowa City and will never forget the kindness you showed me when I needed a place to stay in Des Moines. My thoughts are with you and Gabe.

Dave was one of my first CBAA friends. As a native Iowan, I immediately felt comfortable with him but he was welcoming to everyone. Dave was knowledgeable, thoughtful, prepared, and always entertaining. I looked forward to seeing him at every meeting and kept in touch with him the rest of the year. There is a big Dave-sized hole in the world now. I will always remember how high he set the bar, by example. Godspeed, my friend.

Dave will be greatly missed. He welcomed us each year as bar examiners as if it was our first time. His professionalism, kindness, and humor kept us coming back again and again. With grace and gratitude I bid you so long friend, Renee

It is sad to contemplate a day without Dave. He was such fun to be around, a man of unerring integrity, and a role model for lawyers and the legal profession. Miss you Dave.

Although I met Dave only briefly on a few occasions, I am well aware of the huge role he played in helping Iowa lawyers. All of us have lost a special friend. To Dave's family, please accept the sympathies of the ISBA and contact me if there is anything we can do to help. President, Iowa State Bar Association

I worked with Dave for many years on committees that focused on improving the interpreter services in court. Dave provided great leadership in this effort and always made the work fun and interesting. He was a consummate professional -- trustworthy and treated all with respect and dignity. I am in shock that Dave is no longer with us and extremely sad for all of us that loved Dave and loved working with him! My deepest sympathy to the entire family!

Dear Kathy and Gabe, I work with the court of appeals in Minnesota and attended the same annual professional conference that Dave attended (and Kathy too, at least once, years ago). As Midwesterners, we bonded right away, along with the folks from the Dakotas and Wisconsin. In fact, Dave and my husband (Steve Brill) once showed up at a reception at the conference wearing the same shirt (with fish on it!), which might help to explain, in part, why he and I hit it off from the start. Of course, his kindness, quick wit, and intelligence all contributed to making him a great friend, as well. Although Dave's career took him in another direction and he stopped attending that conference, he and I remained in touch about once each year, just catching up on your accomplishments and life in general. I know how much he cherished you both, and cannot imagine how painful this sudden loss must be for you. Even though we hadn't seen each other in some time, I felt that I'd always have a friend in Iowa, while Dave was there. I am so sorry to hear this news and will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dave was a force of nature. Incredicably funny, intelligent, generous, kind and an unrelenting Cub fun. His departure leaves a huge hole in many lives, including mine. I'll think of him at every brewery, baseball game and during every election. I cannot imagine the loss you, Gabe and your family are experiencing. I hope that you will feel free to call on me and our group of David's friends if you need help with anything. We're a bunch of retired guys with free time on our hands.
