Coordinator - Hamilton's Academy of Grief & Loss

The primary goal of the Academy Coordinator is to provide administrative support to the Academy Director as well as for Academy programs & assistance with responding to requests from Hamilton’s families & the community.

The position has a pre-determined repeating flexible schedule. It may include evening and weekend hours depending upon Academy activities. This is a full time position.

The pay range is $12.00 to $16.00/hour depending on skills, ability, & performance.

  3. I am paid to assist the Director in the delivery and marketing of all the Community Interaction Projects.
  4. I am paid to be a key Academy link with Family Services Coordinators for several of Hamilton’s major projects through the Academy.

Key Activities

  1. Demonstrate in my daily work an understanding of Hamilton’s Mission Statement & Core Values
  2. Assist the Director with the marketing (both internally and externally) and delivery of the Academy’s many Community Interaction Projects
  3. Help with keeping the Academy information listed on our website up to date
  4. Assist with the preparation and execution of the Academy’s two children’s grief programs: Little Hands and Healing Hearts throughout the year
  5. Provide assistance with the Academy’s continued involvement providing grief support to central Iowa schools
  6. Provide administrative support for maintaining our Grief Resource Library, providing Educational Tours and preparation for Presentations in the community
  7. Help with the ordering and maintaining of Academy materials and supplies
  8. Assist with fulfilling requests (phone, e-mail, etc.) for Academy materials and resources & tracking that activity level
  9. Assist with fulfilling database-generated mailing contacts with Hamilton’s families
  10. Assist with maintaining & continuing to develop collaborations with other area support groups
  11. Assist Hamilton’s families with first viewing support when requested

Education, Work Experience

Minimum AA degree; college degree in related field preferred

Death Certificate and Materials Courier

  • The primary goal of the Death Certificate Courier is to establish a personal relationship & feeling of continuity with physicians, hospice personnel and the Polk County Recorders Office.
  • The position has a pre-determined repeating schedule from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • The pay range is $7.25 to $12.00/hour depending on skills, ability, and performance.

Family Services Assistant

  • The primary goal of the Family Services Assistant is to be a key support person to the full time staff.
  • This is a part time position – twenty-five hours per week maximum. The position can have variable hours or follow a predetermined, repeating flexible schedule. Work includes primarily weekend & evening hours & some daytime.
  • The pay range is $8.00 to $12.00/hour depending upon skills, ability, & performance.

Funeral Director

  • The primary goal of the Funeral Director is to help plan & facilitate arrangements, ceremonies & dispositions for client-families both at-need & pre-need; & to embalm deceased persons. You practice your entire profession.
  • The position has a predetermined repeating flexible schedule. Work is primarily week day with some weekend, evening, Sunday & Holiday hours. This is a full time position.
  • The pay range is $25,000 to $60,000/year depending on skills, ability, experience, & performance.

  • The primary goal of the Preplanning Consultant is to conduct preplanning arrangements both funded & non-funded as well as participating in the day to day at-need funeral activities.
  • The position has variable hours & a flexible schedule. Work includes pre-determined weekend & evening hours. This a full time position.
  • The pay range is $12.00 to $16.00/hour depending on skills, ability, & performance.

System Wide Support Person

  • The primary goal of the System Wide Support Person is to prepare an assigned facility and grounds for our staff as well as the day's visitors, activities and services.
  • The System Wide Support Person is the key support person who helps our professional staff needing assistance with daily operations and activities.
  • This is a full time position – 40 hours per week. The position has a predetermined and repeating schedule. The work week sometimes includes Saturday hours.
  • The pay range/rate is $8.00 to $15.00.

Key Accountabilities

  1. You are paid to maintain courteous and sensitive interactions with our client-families and our fellow workers adapting to the desires of each person seeking your help.
  2. Contribute to building a positive and competent workplace team.
  3. To maintain facilities and support other workers in our common goal of providing a facility and funeral home services that are above expectations.
  4. Complete maintenance tasks that prepare our facilities for our staff as well as for families and their friends. Maintenance tasks account for 40% of the work day responsibilities.
  5. Provide support activities that assist with daily funeral home operations. System wide support activities account for 60% of the work day responsibilities.
  6. Complete a daily special project for this position.
  7. Be responsible, reliable and honest.
  8. Assist with temporary assignments at all facilities.

Key Activities

  3. Follow a task sheet of specific activities to be performed daily.
  4. Maintenance: Complete the maintenance tasks that prepare our facilities for our staff as well as the day's visitors, activities and services. These tasks account for 40% of the work day activities.
  5. System Wide Support: Help other staff persons who need assistance with Hamilton's daily operations. These tasks account for 60% of the work day activities.
  6. When assigned to Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, assist in the maintenance and operation of Hamilton's Crematory.
  7. When assigned to Hamilton's Southtown, assist with ordering and maintaining supplies for the entire Hamilton's system.
  8. When assigned to Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, assist with maintaining garden areas, the retail gift shop, and the memorial reception area.
